Pallet Jack Selection Guide-2: Safety Tips for Pallet Jack Usage
Welcome to our Pallet Jack Selection Guide-2, where we dive deeper into the realm of pallet jack safety. As an essential tool in material handling and logistics, pallet jacks are relied upon daily to efficiently move heavy loads. However, with their power and convenience comes the responsibility to use them safely.
This guide is designed to equip you with vital safety tips and best practices for operating pallet jacks, ensuring not only the protection of your workforce but also preserving the integrity of your Pallet Jack Usage.

Before Operation:

  1. Inspect the Pallet Jack:
    1. Check for any visible damage, such as broken or worn parts.
    2. Ensure the wheels, forks, and hydraulic system are in good working condition.
    3. Verify that the handle and controls operate smoothly.
  2. Select the Right Pallet:
    1. Ensure the pallet you intend to move is in good condition and capable of supporting the load.
  3. Prepare the Area:
    1. Clear the path of obstacles or debris that could hinder the movement of the pallet jack.
    2. Make sure there is enough space to maneuver safely.

Using the Pallet Jack:

Positioning:
Position the forks of the pallet jack at the entry points of the pallet,
aligning them with the openings under the pallet base.

Lowering the Forks:

Lower the forks completely by pulling the control lever or handle towards you,
releasing the hydraulic pressure.

Inserting the Forks:

Slide the forks completely under the pallet until they are centered and support
the weight evenly.

Lifting the Load:

- Pump the handle of the pallet jack up and down to raise the forks. Each pump raises
the forks incrementally.
- Lift the pallet to a height that allows for safe clearance and movement, but avoid lifting
it too high to maintain stability.

Moving the Pallet:

- Once the pallet is lifted to a safe height, maneuver the pallet jack by pushing
or pulling it in the desired direction.
- Use the steering handle to navigate corners and tight spaces smoothly.

Stopping and Positioning:

- When positioning the pallet at its destination, gently lower the forks by slowly releasing
the control lever or handle.
- Ensure the pallet is placed securely and level on the ground or designated area.
Removing the Pallet:
To remove the pallet jack from under the pallet, lower the forks completely and
carefully pull them out from under the pallet.

Safety Tips:

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety shoes, when operating a pallet jack.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and watch for pedestrians or other workers in the area.
  • Never exceed the load capacity of the pallet jack.
  • Avoid sudden movements or jerks that could cause the load to shift or the pallet jack to tip over.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain the pallet jack according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
